Dr Armand du Plessis, a lecturer at Stellenbosch University’s Engineering Faculty and Short Courses Manager at the Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies (CRSES), has been recognised by his students for the difference he makes in their academic lives.

At the recent Recognition of Contributions Towards Academic Success (ROCTAS) Awards, hosted at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS), Dr du Plessis was honoured for his meaningful contributions to student learning and success. The ROCTAS Awards celebrate lecturers who go the extra mile to support and inspire their students. What makes these awards especially meaningful is that nominations come directly from the students themselves.

Stellenbosch University’s first-year students recognised Dr du Plessis for his ability to connect, guide, and empower, not just through delivering content, but through teaching that supports growth, confidence, and curiosity.

Dr du Plessis’s work at CRSES in managing technical training and short courses in renewable energy continues to shape a generation of professionals eager to solve real-world energy challenges. His recognition is a reflection of his passion for both education and engineering and how he brings these together to create an engaging, student-centred learning environment.

In a time when first-year students face increasing pressure and uncertainty, lecturers like Dr du Plessis make a world of difference. His teaching, support, and mentorship are not just helping students succeed in class; they are helping them feel seen, capable, and ready to take on the future.

Congratulations, Dr Armand du Plessis.
