Paul Thiele represented CRSES and the Hydrogen Generation and Energy Network (H2GEN) at the International Conference on Circular Economy, Renewable Energies and Green Hydrogen in Africa (ICERA 2025), held on 21-22 October 2025 in Windhoek, Namibia.

The conference brought together leading researchers, policymakers, and industry experts from across Africa and beyond to discuss critical topics including renewable energy deployment, green hydrogen production, circular economy strategies, and sustainable resource management. Paul delivered a presentation titled “South Africa – Namibia Green Hydrogen Corridor: Skills Development,” addressing the crucial role of capacity building in the emerging green hydrogen economy. The presentation examined strategic approaches to developing the skilled workforce necessary to support a bi-national green hydrogen corridor between South Africa and Namibia.

In recognition of this contribution, Paul was awarded the “Prize of Honour” at the conference’s closing gala dinner on 22 October 2025.
ICERA 2025 featured seven thematic sessions covering renewable energy technologies, legal and regulatory frameworks, biomass and waste valorization, green hydrogen production and policy, health and environmental aspects, recycling strategies, and implementation frameworks. The conference was organized by SASSCAL, Universität Rostock, and WASCAL, with funding from the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.
