CRSES wrapped up a successful three-day SOLTRAIN+ training workshop on the Quality Inspection of Solar Thermal Systems, which was held from 21 to 23 May 2025 at Stellenbosch University. The workshop was led by Senior Engineer at AEE INTEC (Austria), Rudi Moschik, and it brought together professionals from across the energy sector for an engaging, practical learning experience.

The training kicked off with a strong foundation in energy auditing, equipping attendees with tools to evaluate performance and identify inefficiencies. The second day featured classroom sessions focused on quality assurance, system safety, and international inspection standards. On the final day, participants took their learning into the field, conducting hands-on inspections and engaging directly with installation teams. Participants revisited essential energy audit techniques, explored best practices in system inspection, and applied their knowledge during site visits to two solar thermal system demonstrations, one at a retirement home called Huis Ebenhaeser, in Stellenbosch, and another at a hospital in Cape Town.

The workshop was offered free of charge through the SOLTRAIN+ initiative, as the workshop aimed to build regional technical capacity in solar thermal system design, performance, and long-term sustainability. The training supports Southern Africa’s transition to clean, reliable energy solutions by strengthening the skills of local professionals and promoting high-quality installations.

This event highlights the critical role of knowledge-sharing and practical training in growing the renewable energy sector across the region.
