CRSES team at STIAS

The CRSES Leadership Team recently spent two days (11-12 August 2025) at STIAS for an intensive strategic workshop that formed part of the process towards finalising the 2025–2030 Strategic Vision Report. This workshop was facilitated by the experienced certified coach, Prof. Hanri Mostert from True Worth Coaching. The session brought together colleagues from across all portfolios in a rare opportunity to step back from day-to-day work and focus on the bigger picture of where CRSES is now and where it is heading.

The first day was about mapping the present and deepening connection across the team. Through a series of reflective and interactive exercises, each portfolio was able to share its role, challenges, and aspirations, while also “visiting” and learning from the work of others. This process not only created a clearer view of how each part of CRSES fits into the whole but also surfaced areas of alignment and synergy. By the end of the day, the group had identified shared realities, recognised misalignments, and developed a richer understanding of the Centre’s collective strengths.

The second day shifted towards imagining the future and translating insights into strategy. Using creative tools such as visioning and the Six Thinking Hats exercise, the team explored what CRSES could look like in 2030 and beyond and began shaping goals that are both ambitious and actionable. The group worked together to set clear goals and commitments that will guide the way forward.

Beyond the formal agenda, the retreat was also an important moment of team building. It gave colleagues the chance to connect outside the usual office setting, build trust, and strengthen relationships. The energy in the room grew steadily over the two days, and by the closing gratitude circle, the team felt more united and motivated. The session not only clarified strategy but also lifted the team spirit and reinforced the sense of shared purpose that will drive CRSES into its next chapter.

The insights and outcomes from the retreat will directly inform the 2025–2030 Strategic Vision Report and set the foundation for CRSES to continue its growth as Africa’s leading renewable energy knowledge hub.
