On Saturday, 15 March 2025, the Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies (CRSES) and the Solar Thermal Energy Research Group (STERG) proudly participated in Stellenbosch University’s annual Engineering Open Day, an event that continues to spark curiosity, inspire future engineers, and connect the university’s work with the broader community.
Our interactive stall was set up in the Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering parking area, where we welcomed a steady flow of enthusiastic visitors throughout the day. The space came alive with displays and demonstrations of several renewable energy technologies, highlighting the practical, cutting-edge research being conducted at CRSES and STERG.
In addition to current work, the team also presented a variety of past student-led and research projects, giving prospective students a tangible sense of the type of innovation and real-world impact they can expect to be part of if they pursue studies in renewable energy at Stellenbosch.
It was especially exciting to see so many high school learners, undergraduate students, and parents engaging with the displays, asking questions, and expressing interest in the field of sustainable energy. The positive energy and curiosity shared by visitors made the day both meaningful and motivating for our team.
