Profile

Francois Rozon holds a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University and an M.Sc. in Aeronautics from the California Institute of Technology. He completed his PhD in Engineering at Stellenbosch University in 2024, focusing on the decarbonisation of industrial energy systems, namely thermal energy. Dr Rozon worked for over two decades in the industry, first as a management consultant with McKinsey and Company in Canada, Australia and South Africa, before joining BHP Billiton, where he led a speciality smelter operation in Mpumalanga before assuming a global business development role for the Stainless Steel division. He was then appointed at SABMiller as Managing Director of Appletiser, where he accelerated the brand’s growth and fuelled its international expansion. He was then an integral part of creating Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, the largest bottler on the African continent, from 2016 to 2020, after which he decided to fulfil his academic ambition. He is now a senior researcher at the Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies at Stellenbosch University, where he continues with his research on industrial and institutional thermal energy system decarbonisation.
