Etian Ngobeni holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering from Stellenbosch University, as well as both a BSc and MSc in Agricultural Economics from the University of Limpopo. His research interests lie at the intersection of industrial engineering, agricultural economics, sustainability, and systems thinking, with a particular focus on agrifood systems, resource efficiency, and sustainable development. His work explores engineering, economic, and systems-based approaches to address complex challenges in food systems, logistics, energy, and resource management. In 2025, He was nationally recognised as the Best Scholar in the Agricultural Field by the South African Agricultural Awards in partnership with the AgriSETA. He has also contributed to international and youth-focused initiatives, including the World Food Forum Youth Assembly and the BRICS Youth Energy Agency. His broader interests include sustainable supply chains, the water-energy-food nexus, production systems, and development-oriented innovation.
