The Moloke Media Lab has been recognised with the Innovation for Socio-Economic Impact Award at the SANEDI Conference, highlighting the initiative’s contribution to improving access to digital resources and learning opportunities in rural communities.

The Media Lab forms part of outreach initiatives led by the Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies (CRSES) at Stellenbosch University, developed in partnership with the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) and the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI). The first Media Lab was launched in 2021 at Mugoidwa Secondary School in Limpopo’s Vhembe district. Building on this success, a second Media Lab was introduced at Moloke Primary School in Apel, Limpopo in 2022.

The initiative aims to provide learners with access to computers and digital learning tools, helping to improve computer literacy and create pathways for learners to pursue tertiary education in the future.

The award recognises the positive socio-economic impact of the Moloke Media Lab and its role in empowering learners through improved access to technology and educational resources.
