CRSES Chief Engineer, Dr Justice Chihota, was awarded the Best Oral Presentation at the SANEDI Annual Energy Conference 2026, held from 24–26 February 2026.

Dr Chihota received the award for his presentation titled “Unlocking Grid Potential Towards Streamlined Grid Interconnection Frameworks.” The presentation addressed the pressing challenge of grid capacity constraints that continue to affect the integration of renewable energy in South Africa.

His work focused on improving distributed generation (DG) interconnection frameworks through practical, data-driven approaches that can help accelerate connection processes while maintaining system reliability. The research contributes to ongoing efforts to strengthen South Africa’s grid infrastructure and support the expansion of renewable energy generation.

The recognition highlights the impact of CRSES research in addressing critical challenges within the energy sector and advancing solutions that support South Africa’s energy transition.
