Following the two-day specialised training on Heat Pump Systems for Commercial and Large Residential Applications, CRSES, through the SOLTRAIN+ programme, concluded the programme with a technical tour on 7 August 2026.

Attendees at the technical tour of Heat Pump Systems for Commercial and Large Residential Applications

The tour gave 27 participants, including project developers, consultants, installers, municipal engineers, lecturers and postgraduate students, the opportunity to move from theory to practice by visiting operational heat pump installations in real-world settings.

The first stop was Huis Ebenhaeser, where participants explored the application of heat pump technology within a large residential environment. The visit allowed them to observe the installation and consider how the system integrates into a residential hot water system, while engaging with practical aspects of its operation and maintenance.

The group then visited Mediclinic Cape Town Hospital, where participants gained insight into the use of heat pump technology within a large commercial facility. The site provided a practical perspective on the role of reliable hot water, heating and cooling systems in a demanding operational environment.

At both sites, participants were able to connect the technical concepts covered during the training, including system components, integration and design considerations, with full-scale installations. The visits also created an opportunity to discuss the practical realities of installation, operation and maintenance.

The technical tour concluded at 14:00, bringing the three-day specialised programme to a close. The tour provided a valuable practical complement to the classroom-based training and enabled participants to consolidate their understanding by seeing heat pump systems operating in real-world settings.

SOLTRAIN+, through the CRSES continues to strengthen practical capacity in renewable heating and cooling, helping professionals and emerging specialists translate technical knowledge into applications that can support a more sustainable energy future.
